I find the concept of abortion absolutely grotesque.
I also find the concept of government telling any woman, “No, you cannot have medical care you elect” absolutely grotesque.
I relied on Planned Parenthood for medical treatment for several years, because I was either uninsured or underinsured. I have a medical condition that is best treated with a low dose hormone pill once a day– more commonly referred to as ‘birth control’.
One month’s supply retails for $145. PP got it to me for $35. And there was no chance the PP pharmacist was going to tell me, “I can’t fill your prescription because it is against my religious beliefs.” And every so often I had to walk through the protestors carrying pictures of dead babies and calling me a murderer– so I can get the pills that keep me from being too sick to stand up, let alone work.
Now, here we have Sarah Palin. I don’t like her. Yeah, we share a lot of things in common (hunters, lived in rural areas, ovaries), but she’s rude, she panders, she’s put every place she’s been in charge of into massive debt, she’s a flat out liar, and she charged rape victims to collect evidence to convict their violators.
I’m not terribly fond of Obama either, however. So I’m not interested in donating to his campaign. The fantastic Eileen posted this email she got, which I am reprinting in its entirety. Right after I got done donating some cashy money. Because it’s a three-paycheck month, and I typically up my charitable giving in said months.
We may have thought we wanted a woman on a national political ticket, but the joke has really been on us, hasn’t it? Are you as sick in your stomach as I am at the thought of Sarah Palin as Vice President of the United States ?
Since Palin gave her speech accepting the Republican nomination for the Vice Presidency, Barack Obama’s campaign has raised over $10 million dollars. Some of you may already be supporting the Obama campaign financially; others of you may still be a little honked off over the primaries. None of you, however, can be happy with Palin’s selection, especially on her positions on women’s issues. So, if you feel you can’t support the Obama campaign financially, may I suggest the following fiendishly brilliant alternative?
Make a donation to Planned Parenthood. In Sarah Palin’s name. And here’s the good part: when you make a donation to PP in her name, they’ll send her a card telling her that the donation has been made in her honor.
Here’s the link to the Planned Parenthood website:
You’ll need to fill in the address to let PP know where to send the “in Sarah Palin’s honor” card. I suggest you use the address for the McCain campaign headquarters, which is:
McCain for President
1235 S. Clark Street
Arlington , VA 22202
[Note from Mary Sue: That appears to be the Virginia State HQ for the campaign. I just went to johnmccain.com and they had this address:
John McCain 2008
P.O. Box 16118
Arlington, VA 22215]
Feel free to send this along to all your women friends and urge them to do the same.
