See you when I get back.
Stuff I watched this week
25 06 2009Devdas (DVD) – Three hour Bollywood extravaganza, about two star-crossed lovers and there’s singing and dancing and then everything goes to pot. A+ will watch again, which is a good thing, since I bought the DVD.
The Ramen Girl (Netflix Watch Instantly) – Brittany Murphy is a clueless blonde in Tokyo who decides she wants to learn to cook Ramen. Hijinks ensue. It’s an absolutely fantastic comedy.
Live Free or Die Hard (DVD) – I had a need for gross property damage. This fit the bill.
NCIS Season 6 (Netflix Watch Instantly) – I missed the last half of the season on the TV, so this was a chance to catch up. This season was available on Netflix within a week of it airing, but I’m lazy. And boy, did the season end with a bang. I also enjoyed the two eps that were the lead-in for the new spinoff show, NCIS: Los Angeles.
Neverwhere (Netflix Watch Instantly) – I love the book, but man is the miniseries even better!
Doom (Netflix DVD) – What? I like things go boom!

Ebert’s Transformers 2 Review
23 06 2009The movie has been signed by Michael Bay. This is the same man who directed “The Rock” in 1996. Now he has made “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” Faust made a better deal.
And that’s one of the mild parts. You should read the whole thing. It’s comedy gold.
Another excerpt:
There are many great-looking babes in the film, who are made up to a flawless perfection and look just like real women, if you are a junior fanboy whose experience of the gender is limited to lad magazines.
Now, I’m a fangirl and proud of it, but I laughed v. v. hard at this because man, I know those mouthbreathing fanboys. They’re the ones who give all fen a bad name, and are the reason every time I mention I’m going to a convention in September, people ask me, “Are you going to dress up?”
Dude, that’s just a small, small slice of what goes on at cons. And it’s kind of hard to dress up like a stick figure.
You know, it’s not like I’m not going to see Transformers 2. Because I am, probably as soon as it hits the Baghdad Theater. And I know that Ebert is pretty much the exact opposite of the intended audience for this film. He is a paid movie reviewer, after all, who likes films that make him think.
Me? I do enough thinking at work. I like films with widescale property damage.
9/1/09 ETA: I saw it. At the Bagdad. I liked it ’cause I didn’t make the misteak of thinking about the movie. I also liked Megan Fox’s character’s sensibilities.

How to mess up an entire department
22 06 2009It’s real easy. All you need to do is replace all the broken, hazed, and scaled windows with new, actually-see-through windows.
My first reaction when I got into work? CLOSE THE BLINDS OMG.
And for those who care, I have 4170 words on my new story and a 16 song playlist.

“You know, being stalked isn’t really a big turn-on for girls”
20 06 2009The way Twilight should have gone. I would have totally watched this movie. I like it when he falls down and stops moving!
You may have noticed many, many videos lately and no pictures. That’s because my camera died. It’s sad.

Weekend plans change…
20 06 2009I’ve got a liter of coffee in a vacuum flask, 1200 words, and a very minor plot hole that I’m just going to ignore for now.
Wanna see if I can write a novella in the next 24 hours?

True Corporate Charity
19 06 2009Whenever I see an article about a corporation doing something OH SO SPESHUL for someone, it always twinges my cynicisim bone. Like this article with the headline, Pixar grants girl’s dying wish to see ‘Up’, the first thing I do is look to see when the press release was created.
Pixar officials declined to comment on the story or name the employees involved.
Oh.
Wow.
Eternal rest grant to them,
May light perpetual shine upon them.
May the peace which surpasses all understanding
be with those who grieve.

What I’m doing this weekend
18 06 2009Escher exhibit at Portland Art Museum. He is my favorite MC. I think I’ll skip the 40 and just have an earl grey tea.
World’s Longest Kickball Game Attempt, admission 2 cans of food, benefiting the Oregon Food Bank.
And I’ll be getting to both via public transit.
Gotta love Portland.
