[Fangirl] I just want to tell you how I’m feeling

28 11 2008

This? This is what I get for going to the Oregon Zoo yesterday and watching the baaaaby elephant?

I miss the Greatest Rickroll in History?

Mr. Astley, I tip my cap to you.

[Fangirl] Heroes. Yeeeeah.

26 11 2008

I haven’t been watching Heroes all that much lately (TOO MUCH BROODY! NOT ENOUGH ‘SPLODY!), and I really, really tried to watch the episode on Monday just because Seth Green is my little* nerdy god, but there was Petrelli nonsense and I gave up Petrelli nonsense for Little Lent.

Which, according to io9, means I missed the best part, that is when New Comic Wednesday became a plot point.

*The man’s taller than I am, which SAYS A LOT ABOUT HOW SHORT I AM.

[Fangirl] Watchin’ the Transformers

24 11 2008

Sam: Fifty years from now, when you look back on your life, do you want to say you had the guts to get into the car?
Moi: HELL. NO.

[Fangirl] Super-Secret Hush-Hush Plans Move Apace

20 11 2008

And I would really, really like to flail and OMG with y’all, but then they wouldn’t be super-secret hush-hush plans.

AND IT IS KILLING ME!

[Finances] Note to Self–

19 11 2008

Dear Self:

Christmas budget is for buying gifts for OTHER PEOPLE.

NOT YOURSELF.

(Even though that necklace is absolutely exactly my style, subtle, yet ridiculous.)

Love,
Mee

[Food] Oh, darlings.

15 11 2008

If you have never been to Vino Vixens on Powell and 26th, you have *no* idea.

Okay, I had no idea until this afternoon when I showed up for a NaNoWriMo write-in. BUT STILL!

Happy hour every day between 4-6. Very, very, ridiculously reasonable by the glass prices. The house white and red rotates. Small but really broad selection, and this is the child of Napa talking. A comfortable and relaxed space with many couches, and outlets, and wifi.

Very knowlegable staff who are about as far from snobby as Australia is from Champagne. Pool, if you like that thing. They sell some nibbly cheese and sausage, but YOU CAN BRING IN YOUR OWN FOOD.

Ports. Bubblies. A tiny but very intruiging beer selection.

Yes, I went to a wine bar and drank beer. Yes, I’m That Beer Douche. In my defense, it was a Dogshead 90 Minute IPA, which was AWESOME. I’m now sipping on a glass of 14 Hands cabernet, which I have had before, but it’s kind of hard to find and now I know they carry it for sale by the bottle, well, YUM.

I’m thinking about running across the street to Hopworks and ordering the chicken strips to go, and bringing it over here. I bet it’s a thousand times less crowded here than it is over there. BECAUSE YOU CAN BRING YOUR OWN FOOD. I cannot emphasize the total awesomosity of this enough.

[Finances] Electronics Woes

15 11 2008

Finally figured out why my DVD player wasn’t loading discs. Googled the brand and discovered it’s got a viable life of about 3 years until the spinny motor dies.

Mine lasted 5 years.

Some people think that DVD players are not essential equipment. Those people are not fangirls with both Pirates of the Carribbean 3 and Cloverfield sitting on top of their teevee.

Did some searching online to familiarize myself with the current offerings. I ran over to Fred Meyers this morning and found the exact Phillips one that had gotten good reviews was on sale for $40.

I took the money from my Sonic Screwdriver Fund, which normal people would call the Miscellaneous Fund.

[Fangirl] Chameleon Circut, “Blink”

14 11 2008

Yeah, if you don’t get the name of the band, you won’t find this FREAKIN’ AWESOME.

[Fangirl] Open Letter to Dan Dido

14 11 2008

Dear Dan Dido:

You’re canceling Blue Beetle.

You? Are a jackass.

Also? You do realise canceling Blue Beetle means that you’re canceling the last DC book I regularly buy, right?

Therefore, your sales? Just dropped another 4 bucks.

I’m certain Dark Horse will write you a thank you for sending them my money. Yay! I can now has B.P.R.D.!

No Love,
Mary Sue

[Fangirl] My One and Only Post on Twilight

10 11 2008

io9 has the definitive 5 Things you need to know, however this review from their sister site pretty much says all you need to know about the third book:

It’s 754 pages long, its heroine’s dominant personality trait is low self-esteem, and, as Amazon reviewer Eventide points out, nobody really has to give up anything. Even the tedium of immortality is glossed over — these vampires just keep busy with their hobbies. If I had an eternity to read, I still might never pick up this book again.

Everything I know about the Twilight series comes from the lovely and talented Cleolinda. After reading her academic and fan and MST3K commentaries on the series, I will not be reading the books nor will I be watching the film.

But it does my heart good to know that somewhere, way out there, in some universe out there, that there are sparkly vampires.
